110. Health in Ohio's Muslim Communities: Dr. Marium Husain

On the last episode of the 2021-2022 season, Dan Skinner talks with Dr. Marium Husain, physician and oncologist-in-training, climate activist, and current President of the Islamic Medical Association of North America. Dan and Marium talk about a wide range of issues, including health challenges and opportunities in Ohio's Muslim communities; stigma and violence impacting Ohio's Muslims; and opportunities presented by interfaith collaboration.

Several past episodes are relevant to and provide great background for our conversation with Dr. Husain. Listeners will want to go back and listen to our episode with the good folks at OPAWL on building community within Ohio's Asian American and Pacific Islander Community, as well as the past episode on which Dr. Husain appeared with Ohio Clinicians for Climate Action. On the episode, as well, Dan mentions our previous episode with Brian Alexander, who talks about the diversity in Ohio’s rural communities in large part because of the presence of physicians who are part of Ohio’s Muslim communities. Finally, Dr. Husain mentioned the important work being done by the Faith and Food Coalition, which you can learn more about (and support!) here.

Hosted by Dan Skinner. Production support by Trish Mayhorn. Music by Kyle Rosenberger.
